Originally from Germany, I hold a PhD and MA in History from Princeton (2022, 2018), an MA in Global History from Free University and Humboldt University Berlin (2016), as well as a BA in Modern History and Anthropology from the University of Freiburg (2012).

I have organized panels for the African Studies Association Meeting (2024, 2023, 2022, 2021, 2020), the European Conference on African Studies (2023), and the Northeastern Workshop on Southern Africa (2020). I have also shared my work at workshops or given invited lectures at Humboldt University Berlin, Columbia University, the University of Dar es Salaam, the University of Tokyo, Sogang University, the University of Cologne, the University of Basel, the School of Oriental and African Studies, and the Memory Studies Association Conference.

I serve as a reviewer for leading peer-reviewed journals, including AfricaThe Journal of African History, History in Africa, Cahiers d’études africaines, African Affairs, and Memory Studies, among others.

I participate in several professional associations, including the African Studies Association of the United Kingdom, the Royal African Society, the African Studies Association (US), the Memory Studies Association, and the Association of Africanists in Germany (VAD). In February 2025, the Royal Historical Society elected me as an Associate Fellow.
